Uniform Tonality

A core Muraudio attribute is a dispersion pattern that not only frees from the restrictions of the sweet spot, but transforms the way one experiences music.

This extremely wide sweet spot is only the beginning. The key is the uniform tonality when moving off-axis. Even far off to either side the soundstage still stays intact, where it would usually collapse beyond a very narrow range at the end of the classic isosceles triangle – traditionally a requirement for a functional stereo image. This stereo image is what creates the glorious illusion of the performance encoded in the program material in the first place. Without it we cannot go deeper into the music.

This is where the transformative Muraudio experience comes into play: if the stereo image becomes immersive, and the music "lifts" itself from the speakers, another level of involvement with the artists' performance is possible.

“All this was, of course, hugely gratifying, almost hypnotically so. One had a wonderful time listening and experienced a remarkable suspension of disbelief. One could sink into the music and forget all about audio and its categories.“

Omnidirectional Point Source ESL

The original, driving ESL technology to new heights. The PX2 incorporates a 360-degree array of Muraudio's Continuous Curve point source ESL panels to deliver low distortion, high-output sound with perfect coherence and precise response.

“I had perhaps not realized that music reproduced in the home could be quite like this: the purity, the smoothness, the roundness, the filling of the room, the effortlessness, the deep bass extension, the sense of speakers vanishing as sources, and the stability of the sound with respect to listener position, all combined to disarm my critical self and switch me over to the state of a listener hearing live music in a great concert hall, immersed in an ambient soundfield, albeit with the locations of instruments still clearly perceived.“

A New State-Of-The-Art

The Continuous Curve ESL Panel

Engaging more viscerally with music all begins with the proprietary Continuous Curve ESL panel – the foundation upon which every Muraudio is built.

The principles of this singular Muraudio Experience are never compromised. Every design making it to production, and every loudspeaker leaving the factory in Ottawa, Canada, must meet this non-negotiable criterium. It has to satisfy what made TAS’ Robert E. Greene call the Continuous Curve ESL “one of the all-time triumphs of speaker design”.

“Form and function are one”, Frank Lloyd Wright's famous quote reminding of the importance of purposeful design, is a perfect description of how Muraudio's patented technology came to be.

Stator Panel

Muraudio's Continuous Curve ESL stator panels are three-dimensionally formed with a patented edge-rounding process developed exclusively to realize the extraordinary high output performance.

Ideal audio performance (the “Sweet Spot”).

Music is meant to be a shared art form, but conventional ESL and box-type speakers make accurately reproducing a live performance a solitary experience, reserved for a single listener centered between the speakers in the “Sweet Spot”. "Box" dynamic speakers have a wider listening window but listeners located more than 30 degrees off axis lose high-frequency extension, overall detail and balanced stereo imaging.

The Sweet Spot Narrow

By contrast, Muraudio’s Continuous Curve ESLs ensure that every listener in the room, no matter where they sit or stand, will hear every last bit of recorded musical detail - reproduced with the kind of precision, micro-detail, and three-dimensional stereo imaging only Muraudio's patented panel can deliver.

The Sweet Spot Wide

Traditional ESL speakers have extremely narrow vertical dispersion which is reduced the farther the listener is from the speaker. Full fidelity sound reproduction is limited as a result.

Narrow Dispersion

Muraudio's Continuous Curve ESL panels disperse sound 16 degrees in the vertical plane for full fidelity listening from any position.  The sound field gets larger the further you are from the speaker.

Wide Dispersion
Technology

Muraudio's groundbreaking loudspeakers required novel component parts. These not only had to be developed on paper, but physically realized - although no standardized machines existed for that purpose.

Muraudio's patented panel shaping technology uses over a quarter million pounds of hydraulic force to form each Continuous Curve ESL, creating their signature faceted shape. This is but one example of the purpose-built equipment used to produce Muraudio's revolutionary sound.

A Line-Source That Images Like a Point-Source

One of the downsides of traditional panel speakers is that they cannot image like a point source. This is where dynamic drivers – or more precisely tweeters – offer a definite advantage. Imaging takes place above 2Khz, and is essential to the authentic reproduction of the original performance.

ESL panels are so-called line sources, projecting a ‘wall of sound’ - if done well. However, the resulting image is restricted by an absence of appropriately sized and spatially correctly placed vocals and instruments. Muraudio's patented Continuous Curve ESL panels are designed to give you the best of both worlds: a line-source that images like a point-source. Due to their wide – yet accurate – dispersion pattern they immerse listeners, yet also reproduce a correctly sized and spaced soundstage as preserved in the recording.

The imaging prowess of tweeters without the narrow restriction of a sweet spot: generating a three-dimensional presentation that is effortlessly immersive and excels at all the characteristics that draw listeners to ESLs in the first place.

Female Pianist

Seamless Hybrid Integration of ESL and dynamic drivers.

Getting deep and clean bass from a panel speaker has always been a massive challenge. There are two approaches (outside of separate subwoofers): either using a very large ESL (panel), or through dynamic drivers taking over in the lower region.

Appropriate bass output via an ESL only would require a very large panel – which comes with compromises favouring the hybrid approach with dynamic drivers. However, since the beginning the same fundamental problem has haunted hybrid designs: how to integrate the ESL panel and the dynamic drivers seamlessly. It usually is fairly obvious that something in that transition is ‘off’. The ears quickly will tune to where the panel ends, and the dynamic drivers begin. . .

That’s why Muraudio developed an entirely new hybrid approach. Achieving that seamless integration – along with a truly taut and clean bass – was a non-negotiable on the design brief. It necessitated a radical rethink on how to tackle the problem. Seamless integration is an essential characteristic of all Muraudio designs.

" I couldn't get over the way instruments and voices remained in their proper position with the correct scale, even when recorded passages dropped to whisper quiet levels . . . it seemed they had been working for years at fulfilling all my unspoken wishes."

Kevin R., New Jersey

Trumpet Player

“The outputs of its five drivers blend so well that they sound like a single driver of nearly full range. It sounds wickedly clean and natural regardless of the music played.”

Doug Schneider, SoundStage!

An Unmatched Hybrid Transition

Muraudio's custom designed dynamic drivers always radiate in a pattern identical to that produced by the ESL panels, producing a seamless integration across the full frequency range, from the deepest bass to the highest harmonic overtones. They are carefully configured to have matching horizontal dispersion at the crossover frequency, making the transition inaudible. This is a key factor enabling the unrivalled musicality and sonic realism experienced with a Muraudio.

Redefining Realistic Soundstage Reproduction:

 A Singular Experience in HI-FI

A new way of listening, much more like the real thing, in a way that is underappreciated in modern Hi-Fi.

One of the classic advantages of ESLs is the ‘natural sound’ they exhibit. Muraudios extend that concept to the distribution of the sound itself – another layer to truly recreating the life performance.

A breakthrough in natural sound reproduction – more life-like than ever in multiple dimensions.

Your audio experience taken to an entirely new level

Stunning accuracy meets extreme resolution: a combination that guarantees audiophile bliss.

Because of their exceptional ability to retrieve detail, coupled with a complete lack of colouration, Muraudio loudspeakers provide a true window into recordings.

Natural Exciting Sound With Zero Listener Fatigue

A more subtle aspect of the Muraudio Experience lies in something that nonetheless has a huge overall effect on the enjoyment of your system: a total lack of listening fatigue.

This is even more remarkable considering a resolution that is exceptional even by ESL standards. Brilliant, sparkling highs are never achieved by introducing edginess, glare or sibilance.

The result is natural sound at whatever volume you desire: you will want to spend more time with your system than ever before…
